This paper aims to study the Analects of Confucius(論語) from the perspective of Humanities Therapy. Previous research has focused primarily on Philosophical Counseling and Philosophical Therapy. The Analects of Confucius, however, are rich in elements of Literary Therapy and Arts Therapy as well as Philosophical Counseling / Philosophical Therapy.
Confucius used the catechetical method to ask the disciples to think about their own life. Confucius also emphasized studying the Book of Odes(詩經). He emphasized through literature that humans can express their emotions, empathize with others, and learn to communicate with others. Confucius also regarded music as an important element of learning. To Confucius, music was a way of communicating with others, expressing one’s minds and thoughts, and meaningful means of rehabilitating the community. For Confucius, literature, philosophy, and art (music) are not handled separately, but are considered essential elements for the great goal of learning and one’s development. Sometimes philosophical questions are expressed through literary methods, and sometimes literary emotions are revealed through art (music). It is also necessary to study the Analects of Confucius(論語) in a comprehensive area of humanities or humanities rather than a single field such as philosophy or literature.
